Yummy Baked Salmon in Honey, Lemon and Butter

We got used to eating salmon when we lived in Singapore. It was more commonly sold in the grocer than tuna or other fish we're used to locally. That's how I learned this recipe for baked salmon. It's very easy to make. We've only cooked it since we got back home sparingly because it's been hard to find good, affordable salmon. Eating salmon at restos is also quite expensive, so I've been on the lookout for something affordable.

When we did our grocery run early this week, I was happy to find out that Cold Storage has started to distribute their seafood products locally. It finally reached the grocery we frequent. It was also affordable and within our budget. Two packs of salmon is the equivalent of one salmon dish at a restaurant. So this week's cooking lesson for Miggy is how to bake salmon.

It turned out well :)

Here's how we made it -

Let's bake again soon!

Lockdown Easy-to-Cook Recipes

I've been teaching Miggy to cook by taking videos whenever I cook. This way he can also see visually how I make things. I was so surprised to see that I've made quite a lot of dishes already. Thought I'd make a summary here to help friends who are also stuck at home and want to learn how to cook. I guess this would be useful for foreign friends who'd like to learn Filipino dishes.

Top on the list of course is, chicken adobo! This dish is so easy to make. The key though is to use Filipino soy sauce and vinegar.

Second easy to make dish, pork steak. This is originally bistek Tagalog, but I find it hard to soften beef. If you want to use beef, just use beef instead of pork. I tried using Kikkoman instead of Datu Puti soy sauce, I ended up having to add a lot of water because it turned out too salty.

My friends have been telling me that they miss my spaghetti. It's not your usually sweet Pinoy spaghetti. It was my seatmate from work who taught me how to make this spaghetti.

And our favorite baked salmon is a frequent dish I make especially during lent.

For those who love veggies, here's pinakbet. It was my first time to make this my friend Buddy from the onlinepalengke.com sent me a box of vegetables last Christmas.

Recipes for my Son: Baked Salmon in Honey and Lemon

My boys absolutely love this recipe. I made it last weekend for them and Miguel actually asked where he could buy salmon in Manila. So I thought it would be helpful to make video on how I make this very simple dish.

Ingredients

2-3 cloves garlic, crushed
1/8 cup to 1/4 cup butter
2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
salt and pepper
1/2 kg salmon (or three to four 3 in. x 6 in. cuts)

How to Prepare

1. Pre-heat over for 10 minutes at 190'C.
2. Melt butter in low heat together with garlic and honey/maple syrup.
3. Lay out salmon in a foil-lined pan. Sprinkle salmon with salt and pepper.
4. Pour butter mixture on salmon. Seal the pan with foil, but leave the sides open.
5. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes at 190'C.
