It was my Mom who initially forced me to learn how to garden. She'd bring plants to our home. I'd give her the plants back whenever they looked like they were dying. I gave up all my plants when I moved to Singapore.
It was during the pandemic when I started gardening again. I ordered materials online and started where I had previously been successful -- mustard greens (mustasa). After that I tried growing bell peppers and tomatoes.
Moving back home gave me a bigger "play area". Mom would bring plants for me. That forced me to study the plants she'd bring. And that's what made a difference. Knowing what kind of plant I'm caring for helped me understand what it needs.
It's basically knowing what kind of soil, fertilizer (nutrients), watering and sunlight it needs. Most of Mom's plants don't need direct sunlight and require soil for succulents. She did prefer ornamental and flowering plants. I haven't even gone through her main garden, so I have lots to learn.
