What's the Most "MacGyver" Thing You Did?

I watched a short video about MacGyver this afternoon. My generation grew up with him finding solutions using things you can find at home. The clip mentioned that whenever MacGyver blew up stuff, the producers would always give an incomplete recipe, so that kids at home won't blow up their kitchens. 

I never tried any of the things MacGyver did on the series, but I definitely "MacGyver" (do DIY) on some things. Growing up, I was always excited when we had projects that involved building things. Back then you have to figure out a lot of stuff. I remember making a display box for a stone collection. In 5th grade, we were tasked to use bamboo to make a diorama bahay kubo. 

We had to build a lot of stuff with stuff you can find at home. You're lucky if there's a stash of craft cardboard you can use at home. I normally had to make do with old folders and shoe boxes. Nowadays, I usually experiment in my garden and sewing projects where it's safer to DIY stuff. Sweetie's most favorite tools are cable ties, haha. For me, it's bamboo and garden tie cables.

"Suntok sa Buwan" is Worth Watching

I chanced upon the "movie-serye" on Netflix. I later on discovered it was shown on TV5 a few years ago. I was curious and started watching it. The beginning of the film was a bit light, but it became heavier as the struggles of the father and son, Jimmy and Dos, grew. I almost didn't proceed with watching, but the actors showed a lot of depth in portraying their characters. That's what got us hooked. 

We finished watching the whole series early this morning. The last 5 episodes kept us glued to the screen. We just had to know what would happen to Jimmy (Aga Muhlach), Dos, (Elijah Canlas), Tonio (Ketchup Eusebio), Doc (Gio Alvarez), Mr. Seng (Ronnie Lazaro), and their family and friends. The last two episodes had us gripping to our seats. 

I belatedly realized my classmate, Clarissa Estuar-Navarro was part of the team of writers. No wonder I liked the story. I had previously watched some of the shows she wrote and enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the great portrayal of the actors. It's not everyday you'd see Aga Muhlach star in a series. I also enjoyed how Elijah Canlas, Ketchup Eusebio, and Ronnie Lazaro, portrayed their characters. It gave them the opportunity to showcase their talent. I honestly did not recognize Gio Alvarez as the doctor. I only found out when I read the cast of characters after I finished watching.

The series has 65 episodes. It's worth the time especially if you want to see really good acting with a great storyline. So, did Mr. Seng really die? It wasn't clear in the ending, so maybe there can be a book 2?

K-Love (the series)

To be honest, I've watched only a handful of K-drama shows. I only recently signed up for Viu because my friends have been recommending watching "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" for a few years now. I haven't watched it because I don't like reading subtitles while watching. I want to take in the visuals whenever I watch and reading subtitles is not fun for my eyes.

Anyway, I chanced upon the series "K-Love" on Viu while browsing for shows. I got interested because Sweetie's cousin is part of the cast. I had no idea what the show was about, but gave it a try and got hooked! I roped in Sweetie too and we finished the series in just 3 days (well, I had fever and was forced to rest haha).

I actually liked the series. The characters were well-developed. The cast was well-chosen and believable. There was no dull moment in the story. I laughed and cried with the characters and was certainly gigil with how infuriatingly slow the lovebirds came together, haha. The narrator explained that's how K-dramas go. 

What I particularly liked is the reveal at the end that the narrator is the writer of the story. I am fond of stories written that way because of Louisa May Alcott. She wrote Little Women based on their family, narrating the story through the main character, Jo. I also like the fact that the writer had a happy ending. The series certainly kept me going while fighting fever. 

I enjoyed the series even though I was clueless with the K-drama and Korean artists they mentioned (haha). Well, I have Viu now, so I can probably start with shows that have been dubbed in Tagalog. In the meantime, I'm watching Flower of Evil too. Haha.

Manifest!

After the boys cleared out the boxes in the living room, Sweetie was finally able to set up our TV. The first thing we watched was Cobra Kai. We binge watched it, so we were soon finished. I got curious about Manifest and instead of just watching the trailer, we watched the first episode. We got hooked. 

Manifest is a series on Netflix about a plane that mysteriously lands 5 years after it disappears. The passengers and their families are shocked after they come back after five years. Relationships are disrupted and everyone's asking how were they able to come back 5 years after? The weirdness of the plot is a bit like Lost. I didn't get to finish Lost though because it dragged on at some point and I got bored. 

We finished watch the three seasons of Manifest in less than two weeks. We're glad Netflix picked up the show after NBC cancelled it. They announced that they'll produce the final season. No date yet on when it'll show, but we're relieved that there's going to be one last season. There were a lot of cliffhangers in the last episode of season 3 and we want closure! Haha. 

Now need to find something new to watch. Or maybe I'll bug Sweetie about finishing the Good Doctor and Grey's Anatomy via Hulu. Much as I want to watch Koreanovelas, I just don't have the patience to read subtitles (sorry!) since I usually sew while watching TV. Maybe I'll find something light to watch this time.
