I started writing when I was 8. My mom got me a journal where I could rant (prob so I won't be an annoying brat). I stopped writing for 8 years until the pen and then later on the keyboard called on me again. I blog because I like writing and that's just about it. Hope you get inspired though... Bite the apple!
I was so shocked with the prices of vegetables. It increased a lot in the past couple of weeks. I told myself I need to take growing veggies seriously. I enjoy it anyway, plus it will benefit us. After successfully growing bell peppers, I embarked on expanding my vegetable garden.
Got some tomato, cucumber, and carrot seeds the other day. I wanted to get some lettuce seeds, but it wasn't available. I went for Ramgo seeds to increase my chances of getting the seeds to sprout. The day before I bought seeds, I planted the mustasa seeds which I already had on hand. I was so surprised it sprouted the day after! Using a seed tray with cover really helps.
I went to work and planted the new seeds I got the day after. I had prepared the trays already last weekend. It's pretty cold lately, so I hope keeping the trays covered will help. The mustasa sprouted so fast, I'm just a bit anxious it's getting leggy since the sun hasn't been consistent. I'll move them if needed, but I'll need to keep them elevated so snails don't get to it before they grow!
I hope I see more of the seeds sprout this weekend. I'm not sure if it's the best time to do this since the weather is quite cold especially in the evenings! My bell peppers are growing nicely and I'm seeing more growing since I re-potted them. I still need to re-pot two more and will do it this weekend.
While waiting for the seeds to sprout and with the bell peppers now more stable. I'll work on the orchids we rescued from my childhood home. To be honest, I haven't had that much success with orchids! Gah! They're so hard for me. I have to pray for guidance to successful save what Mom left!

I've been planting bell pepper seeds whenever I have store bought peppers. You have to be very patient with growing bell peppers. It takes about 3 weeks before the seeds sprout and then you need to move it around when the weather changes.
The seeds I planted last January have started to produce flowers. I didn't expect it since it's been growing super slowly. I think it hibernated when we had extremely hot weather. I watered it everyday and consistently gave it rice water weekly. It had a growth spurt when I moved it to a sunnier area. I think the rain also helped.
I've been so afraid to re-pot it. I bit the bullet and re-potted it the other day. I placed it in a spot that gets about 6 hours of sun. It won't get any rain though, so I'll have to observe whether I should move it. I hope the flowers get pollinated so I can harvest some bell pepper soon!
I also have to review what kind of fertilizer it needs. I was in Singapore when I successfully grew some bell pepper. The fruit though was deformed which meant it lacked something. I would very happy if my bell pepper plants finally produce something!

It was July 2022 when a friend sent me a huge bag of tumeric. I don't really use it for cooking, but I kept some to see if they would grow. I propagated it and it grew properly. In early 2023 though we had renovations done in our home and my tumeric plants did not survive. I left the pots under the bamboo tree. Few months later they re-grew!
I re-potted the tumeric in bigger pot together with ginger. After two months I noticed the leaf started to yellow. I found it turned brown the other day. I read that's when you should harvest tumeric or ginger, when the leaves turn brown.
Got my shovel and pulled out the tumeric. I washed it down with a hose to remove the soil and then cleaned it further in the kitchen. It was really interesting to see how one knob created more tumeric. It also looked like it was going to create more if the leaves didn't die too early.
I'm so happy with how this experiment turned out. I still don't use tumeric, so I'll try to propagate this again and give it away if it grows. I have friends who use tumeric when they cook. I'll wait and see if the ginger I re-potted will give a good harvest.

A week ago, I finally got around to planting some seeds. I got covered seed trays online since I felt I needed to make the environment more humid. I already tried the tissue paper route. Using seed trays placed under the sun. In the shade. Via the vertical garden. Throwing in a lot of seeds in a pot (this worked). Hydroponics. None of it worked though for lettuce.
I realized it may have been the seeds, so I got some Ramgo lettuce seeds. I mixed loam soil, compost and rice hull and prepared the seed trays a few days before. The seller in Mahogany Market told me that's the best way to grow veggies. Saturday last week I got working and planted 4 different lettuce seeds: romaine and grand rapids lettuce (from a Lazada shop), and curly lettuce and plain lettuce (Ramgo).
I check the seed trays in the afternoon. I put some water in the bottom to keep the soil moist, then I spray some water once a day. I change the bottom water every other day.

I forgot to request from Ramgo for a planting guide. I just emailed them since I'm not sure if I should remove the tray cover already. I'm just afraid if I do that the cats might get to the seedlings! Uh-oh!
