Lakwatsera Fridays: August Round-up

I was supposed to create one second everyday vids this year. The habit though hasn't stuck and I keep forgetting take videos everyday, haha. I've so far only been able to post for the month of January, so I thought I'd do it for my birthday month. I was able to do it for half the month and just caught up with it yesterday, hahaha. Well, I'll try again this month.

August was definitely not a lakwatsa month. The boys got out of quarantine only on the second week of August and then I had to rest due to overfatigue. The only thing I have to show for the month was baking apple pie and cheese cupcake. The closest we did to a lakwatsa was cooking Ikea meatballs and ordering food in for my birthday! Well, here's the 1SE video -

I guess I'm not a natural vlogger. I'd rather savor a moment than film it, a.k.a. I'm just lazy haha. It really takes a lot of preparation whenever I make tutorials and that's why I'm not consistent with it. I'm the same when we travel. I was lucky to get some footage when we went to Bohol. I've made peace with myself about it and just make do with whatever I'm able to get.

Let's hope September would be a better month! Cases have apparently gone down. Or maybe we can do some joyrides around the park, haha.

December One Second Everyday, Cooking with Miggy and Gardening!

How I wish I could use Molly Weasley's spell to magically organize everything at home. I am getting anxious because I haven't been able to sew and do other creative stuff. Since I overdid things last week which ruined our media noche, I'm going to limit the clean-up time so I can get enough rest and do other things.

I was on a roll yesterday. My arm was hurting so I was forced to just sit still. I ended up writing 4 blog posts and edited one video. It was good to just relax for the day. It also allowed me to work on the design of the maker/craft room.  That task has been pending for a few weeks now. Interior design isn't really my cup of tea. It makes me go zzz, hahaha.

Watch my December 1 second everyday here.

One of the things I've enjoyed doing the past few weeks is cook with Miggy. I have been involving him whenever I cook so he could learn firsthand. He is a natural like his Papa Lolo and he seems to enjoy cooking more than me. We've been able to film short videos and that's what I've been editing (check it out and subscribe to Recipes for My Son). The videos are meant to serve as a guide for Miggy. I started doing this because I realized we weren't able to preserve the family recipes of our elders.

Our latest cooking adventure: cream chicken with bacon, mushroom and thyme

On gardening, I think I mentioned in passing that I almost killed the bird nest fern. It was overwatered. The good news is I realized my mistake early and it looks like it's recovering. I should have researched about the existing plants first before I went on a daily watering rampage! Apparently I should just water the plants 3x a week. Since I was on a roll yesterday, I also made a post on The Balcony Farmer. We're still debating whether we should change the name of the blog since we don't live in a condo anymore. Well, our pocket garden is a floor higher than the road, so maybe we could just stick to the name.

I planted some bell pepper seeds before Christmas. I used the seeds from the bell pepper I used for the chorizo pasta. It's been exciting to check on the progress because I didn't expect many of the seeds would sprout. Well, from experience it takes a lot of care to get the plant to bear fruit. I hope to get a couple that would mature so I won't need to buy bell pepper anymore.

See progress everyday on my FB page.

The cuttings I brought from Singapore are still alive! I separated the pothos into two jars so they can grow better. Only two leaves of the the baby rubber plant survived when I transferred them to a pot. They look okay, but I'm monitoring them closely for now. My Mom has been wanting to give a couple of plants. I told her I'm taking it slow for now since I want to make sure I keep everything alive. Maybe I'll pick up the plants in a week or two.

Whew! Looking back at the past few weeks made me realize that I've been doing a lot. I'm supposed to be slowing down. I just have this odd compulsion to stay productive even when I'm physically challenged. I told myself I'm going to do what Sweetie does and write down daily tasks. I think that would help temper my compulsion to stay productive, haha.

How's your January going?

My YouTube Channel on Home, Hobbies and Inspiration

During my break last year I set the goal of finally working on my blog backlog. My friends from back home usually tease me that I'm a natural historian because I keep a treasure trove of photos and mementos. I used to do our parish newsletter and they appreciated the articles I'd write about our community. I stopped actively blogging for many years and I've always felt something was missing in my life.

I also used to actively vlog many, many years ago. I stopped because I got so busy. My vlogs back then centered on music, blogger events, travel and a little about tech. I thought I'd go back to that, but all my travel plans this year feel through. I eventually focused on new interests and since it's a bit varied I thought I'd pivot on who I am today. That's anyway what a lot of expert vloggers say -- focus on what you love doing and that's what you should communicate on your content.

Recipes for My Son

My family is important to me and being apart with Miggy has been really hard. We were together for three whole months (more like he was stuck with me) and one of the things I enjoy is seeing him cook dishes. He is actually a natural! Much like his Papa Lolo. My cousin made me realize that we didn't learn how to make favorite family recipes before we lost family members. That's what pushed me to film some of the favorite recipes of my boys.

My Home Panaderia

I super miss home and the many, many types of bread we have available in the Philippines. Buying pandesal here in Singapore is expensive! I once bought Spanish bread in Lucky Plaza and it cost SGD2! I realized I could actually learn how to make it myself. I always had the intention, but never had the time to act on it. So I made my home panaderia a project for me to learn how to bake bread. It's hard, but I enjoy the learning process.

An Apple a Day Vlogs

Life goes on after going through a number of medical issues and that's what I want to communicate through my personal vlogs. I have good days and bad days. Bad days can stretch for weeks and breaking it depends on how much I could will my body to become better. In time I hope I can share more about this to help inspire people like me to keep living and to be the best you can be. I can easily write about it, but it's harder for me to communicate it verbally. Hopefully in time :)

The Balcony Farmer

I became a plantita by accident! Last May, I  experimented on planting a tomato I sliced and now they are bearing fruit! I don't have a green thumb. Many plants have died under my care in the last ten years. Those that are still alive today are under my Mom's care. In The Balcony Farmer vlogs I share tips on how I have finally made some success with my plants.

Hope you find something interesting in my YouTube channel - An Apple a Day. Like and subscribe!

Introducing Pinoyvloggers.com

I've shared before that I had been wanting to learn how to edit videos and after doing some experiments and getting the push and support from friends I created YouGotTech.com. Eventually I started to experiment doing video blogs for my travel experiences and have since done a number of other studies.

I also organized a small workshop for vloggers (and wanna-be vloggers) with Buddy Gancenia and attended the CBTL workshop on video blogging. It was really helpful since they gave a lot of techniques and ideas on how to create videos. What's great though about video blogging is you're quite free to do stuff on your own since at the end of the day it's the number of views you get on your video that would dictate if your work is relevant, entertaining or boring.

For me though it's just about having fun and learning new things.

So one day I got curious and checked if the domain PinoyVloggers.com was available. It was! So I got it without knowing what I was going to do with it. It was my good friend, Andrew, who brought up the idea of creating a community site for Filipino video bloggers and we've been collaborating the past few weeks about it. If you're a video blogger (whether you have a blog with videos or just a video channel) then you might want to join us, but if you just love watching videos then maybe you can come over and see what Filipino video bloggers are up to.

PinoyVloggers.com!

Many exciting activities for Filipino video bloggers are happening! If you're a vlogger or maybe want to become one then maybe you can join these contests to jump start your vlogging career -

1. Buhay Coke

2. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

3. Google has one too! Check out this video -

I'd like to issue a challenge though to the following video bloggers and wanna-be video bloggers to join these contests!

Youtube Pinoy superstars -

Ano na? Dali! Mag-vlog ka na!
I'm sure it's the next big thing!

Vlog: My Coca-Cola Story

Note: This is NOT a sponsored post. I do not earn from blogging and have yet to receive my first Adsense check (maybe after another year hahaha).

Nag-disclaimer eh noh. Haha.

Anyway, back to my post. Here's a chronicle of 40 days of my life. Watch and find out how Coca-Cola figured into it.

I'm so happy I succeeded this again this year. It actually took me three decades to control myself. Not an easy task believe me. My niece actually doesn't drink "colored" beverage and just allows herself to drink anything once a week. That is a tall order. That's something that'll take me another decade (or a doctor's order) to do.

What did you sacrifice for Lent?
