Dayrit's Forever!

Finally managed to go out today. Sweetie had some scheduled tests so we accompanied him. We decided to get some takeaway from our all time favorite restaurant, Dayrit's!

I remember I was a young child when my parents would bring me there. I immediately fell in love with their ginormos cheeseburger. And that's been my order for over 40 years!

I was happy to see the resto bustling with activity. We sat by the door and more people arrived waiting to be seated. We also got some local snacks. It's also our go-to place for shingling, merengue and fish crackers. Yum!

Throwback Thursday: Dayrit's, a Childhood Favorite

We had an unplanned lunch at Dayrit's the other day. It's one of my favorite restaurants since I was a child. I remember it used to be situated near the windmill in Magallanes. It eventually moved to the other end when the Magallanes commercial area was renovated and rearranged. Newer restos like Pancake House, Krispy Kreme and Starbucks now occupy the area.

Sorry I forgot to take a photo before I ate, haha.

I don't even look at the menu anymore. I always order a cheeseburger and special iced tea whenever I get to dine at Dayrit's. Mom used to order a sandwich and Dad always ate roast beef. I remember ordering spaghetti once when I was a child. I was surprised it was served on a hot plate shaped as a carabao. It took a long time before it cooled down, so I never ordered it again (haha). They still use carabao hot plates! Miggy's order was served on it the other day.

And sorry, forgot to turn the plate around, haha.

I'm a bit alarmed though, seems there's only one branch left? The website so far only lists Magallanes as a branch. The resto was full when we arrived, so I hope it's always like that. I would be heart broken if the restaurant closes down (praying it won't!).

Daddy's favorite roast beef.

I normally get some processed meat from Dayrit's too. My favorite is their chorizo. I normally use it to make chorizo pasta. You can watch how I make it here, https://youtu.be/l7hGK4ISDIs. Next time I need food if I have visitors, I'll make sure to order from them since they make really good home cooked meals.

Will be back soon!

Childhood Favorite: Dayrit's

My love affair with Dayrit's is like a tale as old as time. I was a young child when my parents started bringing me there. I first tried the sizzling spaghetti, but since it was served really hot I still preferred my Tita Olive's spaghetti. It was the ginormous cheeseburger that sealed the deal for me, for life! My family rarely dined out, but whenever we did it was either we eat at Good Earth, Dayrit's or Jade Garden.

When Sweetie and I were stuck in Singapore for almost 2 years we'd search for Dayrit's on Grab. Haha! We knew it was impossible, but that's how bad we missed it. When we arrived in November a friend promptly sent us goodies from Dayrit's after we finished our quarantine. I was ecstatic and promptly cooked the hamburger steak. Few days later I made some chorizo pasta (recipe here!).

So after my check-up today we grabbed the opportunity to dine at Dayrit's. It felt like stepping back in time because everything looks the same. They just had more goodies available to bring home. We decided to dine in and I was happy to see that most of the waiters were still there. I had my favorite cheeseburger and special iced tea (it's really different!) -

Sweetie had roast beef sandwich -

And Miggy had spam and baked potato. We were wondering though how they made the spam so huge.

Got home and made telebabad with Mom. Discussed with her what needs to be done to fix her house. I was hoping we'd be halfway through it by now, but there are things holding up the renovations. It honestly took me two years to convince her that we need to fix the house. She finally said yes when I came home. Well, I hope we can get things going and maybe soon we can bring Mom out for a spin too.

Doing happy things is helping stabilize my health. My doctor though told me this morning I can't have pets. I feel really sad about it since I was hoping we could get a puppy. A friend tried to give me one, but the boys did not agree since I'm already a handful (hehe). Maybe I could negotiate to at least have fighting fish? :)

Delirious Dreams

I have been having delirious dreams of eating my favorite food from home. It's been 21 months since I've been home. The longest time I've been away. Sweetie said I should make a list of the things I want to eat once we get home. I've been thinking about it the past few days. That's the reason why I've been having crazy food dreams.

I wish the hotel where we will quarantine will allow food delivery! Well if they don't allow it, I hope they'll serve good food. I hope they have silogs available for breakfast. That should tide me over until I could satisfy my cravings.

Most of what I want to eat are my childhood favorites. I'm not into fancy food, I just like it yummy and homey. They bring happy memories of my dates with my Dad when I was a child, eating with friends and officemates, and bonding moments with my boys. So Sweetie, here's my top ten list!

Makati Supermart spaghetti with ripe mango shake please!

Dayrit's cheeseburger (and their chorizo to make yummy pasta)

Pancake House arroz ala cubana and their tacos

McDonald's spaghetti (yup I miss this!)

Shakey's pizza and mojos (OMG mojos!)

Racks ribs and the giant onion thingy

Sbarro's baked ziti

Baliwag chicken with lots of atsara

Barriatos barbecue

Don Henrico's buffalo wings (OMG!)

And from out of town -

Lachi's pork marinara (when can we go to Davao?)

Casa Moderna's palabok with lechon/liempo and the sponge cake

Calea chocolate cake (Anne promised to get me some)

I didn't list Jollibee, Gerry's Grill and Max's since we've been able to get it here, although their menu is a bit different so I'll include it in the list too.

Let's keep this list a secret okay? Please do not send to my doctors hahaha. Nothing to worry about since my blood chem has always been normal! I'm allowed to eat anything.

And once I have satisfied my tummy I'd like to explore the many new food offerings available. I'll probably start with what my neighbors are offering. I'm also saving up to try Marvin Agustin's cochinillo (maybe for Christmas?). In between all of this I'd like to learn how to prepare healthy dishes and I want to learn how to make dishes from my Dad and Mom's hometowns (Lucban and Bicol).

Ahhh, yummy food is one of the things I look forward to when I get home :)

A Starry Weekend

My original weekend plans did not push through, so I was left with free time! Woohoo!!! And what a fabulous weekend it was -

1. What was the Twisted Wedding Planner doing in this event?

2. Fan meets MYMP!

3. And meets Thor during his album "Soul Obsessions" launch where he does duets with a lot of artists including some of my favorites like Sofia, Nina, MYMP, Luke Mejares, and violinist Jerome Nunez.

4. Where did the Lakwatsera get this yummy burger?

5. But, nothing beats these stars. LOL.
