My New Blender Quilt Cover, Meow!

Started this project last May, but I finished two other quilt covers for my KitchenAid stand mixer and food processor. I saw on this project because I had to figure out how to make the tail and the bow tie. Took longer to finish than expected because I also had to rest my arm and exercise to keep the pain away. 

Told myself I have to finish this cat project first before I start another project. Surprised myself by finishing it in less than a week. Finally finished it and I like how it turned out. I realized though I still need to improve my sewing machine skills. It will save my arm from getting triggered. I still like hand quilting though, so many I'll just time myself whenever I sew.

Now that this is done, I can now check my list on what's next. Probably a bag I promised a good friend :)

Picking Up Where I Left Off

It's hard for me not to work any quilt project. My day feels incomplete if I don't pick up a needle to sew something. I could spend hours working on my sewing projects, but my appendages don't agree with long hours. I haven't been able to see an ortho yet, so I started doing the arm PT exercises I learned a few years ago. I think it's helped and I'm also working on reversing my vitamin D insufficiency. 

I told myself I need to first finish projects I've started. I have a number I haven't finished. So yesterday i started working on the cat quilt cover for our blender. All it needs now is to be assembled. Decided though to add a pocket to the backside so I could put some stuff in it if needed. 

I timed myself so I didn't overwork. I just made the pocket and the backside. Started quilting on the pocket, but I started to feel some pain. I think the repetitive hand stitching isn't good for my arm. I immediately stopped and did some exercises. Pain subsided immediately and I rested after. 

Ending this post now because I'm excited to finish my cat quilt. :D

Creative Happy Tuesdays: New Quilt Cover for My Food Processor

After six weeks of working on it off and on, I finally finished the new cat quilt cover for my food processor. I adjusted a lot from the Pinterest pin inspiration. Made the cat face wider and I softened the face by making the eyes more pronounced.

Decided to make another cat to form the back pocket. That's where I'll put the tools of the food processor (so it won't get lost!). I like how it turned out. I also like how the colors nicely merged together.

Creative Happy Tuesdays: The Cat Face

I'm slowly learning more about quilting cute stuff. I'm now finishing up the second kitchen gadget quilt cover I started early last month. Took me awhile to figure out how to add the face that's why the project dragged on. I decided to make it easy for me and just used felt fabric for the outer eyes.  That's what's challenging with Pinterest inspired designs, you have to figure out how to do things since most pins don't really have tutorials. 

Here's how it turned out -

The two panels will form the front and back part of the cover. I'm putting together a third one to hold both sides of the cover. Then I just need to bind it together to form the cover. Ohhh so excited!

Will post the tutorial once internet connectivity becomes more manageable :)

Creative Happy Tuesdays: Trying to Quilt a Cat with a Tail

My goal is to learn something new everytime I create something. I came across this cat with tail design on Pinterest and thought it would be interesting to make. Instead of making a placemat I used the design to cover a kitchen appliance. I'm still working on it, but the base was pretty easy to assemble once I figured out the template. 

Here's how I made it -

I'm halfway done with the project and just need to figure out the eyes and bowtie. I also need to figure out how to add the tail between the quilt and the binding. I expect I'll be doing a lot of unstitching (tastas) when I come to this part. Mom did saw, if it's ugly, tastas!

Hope to finish all my kitchen covers before the month ends! We'll soon clear our living room, that means I can finally make some throw pillow covers. I think I've made enough cat quilts for the time being, so I might work on a new theme next.

Creative Happy Tuesdays: Made Another Cat Quilt!

I'm on a roll making cat quilts because that's the theme I've chosen for my kitchen covers. I'm having fun trying out different cat quilt designs inspired by Pinterest. Decided to try out this cat design since it's expandable to bigger projects. I chose this since I'm using it for a medium sized kitchen gadget. 

My skills to recreate the design was seriously put to the test. I first drew the design on graphing paper to get an idea how I should set it up for my project. It took several pencil drawings before I was satisfied. After that I rendered it on manila paper. I'm glad I did because it looked very different from what I drew on graphing paper. It also took awhile and a lot of erasing before I was satisfied. 

Good thing I did a render on manila paper before I made the template on a chip board. The manila paper render helped me figure out how to cut the fabric and the steps how to piece together the quilt. It looked like a simple design, but I didn't count on how much brain work it required to recreate, lol. Here's how I made it -

I had fun making this. I'm on the hunt to make another one, but for a taller and slimmer kitchen gadget. Maybe I should find one that has a tail. That would be so cute! 

Just thinking though how Mom would react to these cat quilts... she would have scrunged up her nose. She doesn't really like cats since they ruin her plants, hehe.

Creative Happy Tuesdays: My New KitchenAid Mixer Quilted Cover

My summer project is to make new covers for my kitchen appliances. Thought I'd make it a bit quirky and my plan is to use Pinterest inspired cat quilts. I'm not allowed to have pets, but we've been feeding some cats who have been dropping by our house. It's been a good compromise. I call them my socially distant cats. We'll cross the bridge when they finally trust us enough to be brought to the vet. 

Anyway, I haven't had a pet for more than a decade now, that's why I thought a cat themed project would be cute. I finally finished the KitchenAid mixer cover. I thought I'd finish it within a week. As usual my timing has been off and I'm still recovering from flu. The project helped me to calm down in between napping on our tiny couch.

What I like about making my own kitchen covers is I can customize it for my needs. I put a pocket at the back, although I realized the mixer accessories aren't flat and better kept inside the bowl. Anyway, I can always switch the front and back when I feel like it. 

Now that this is done, I have to think about what to do next. I might make one for the blender, then the food processor. I'm still thinking whether I should make one for our grinder. We don't have proper furniture yet, so I'm holding off making throw pillow cases.

Creative Happy Tuesdays: Pinterest Inspired Cat Quilt

I wanted to learn odd-shape quilting. I see a lot of advanced quilters doing this. I wanted to learn because I want to explore making themed quilts. I also wanted to improve my skills outside of making block quilts. I started my learning journey by making mug rugs. Eventually, I looked for something more challenging on Pinterest. 

A cute cat quilt caught my eye on Pinterest. I liked the colors and it looked like something I could make. I couldn't access the website associated with it and couldn't get a pattern. My "drawing" skills was put to the test when I made the pattern. I wanted to make a bag out of it. I hand quilted the project and it turned out okay. I still use the bag every so often.

I'm working on the projects I listed early this year and thought I'd try making the cat design again. I'm going to use it as the face for a kitchen project. It was much easier to make now since I've had practice. I really enjoy doing some embroidery in my projects. Here's how I put it together -

I plan to try other pins I picked on Pinterest in the coming weeks. Hope to finish my kitchen project by end of summer. After that I'll move on to other projects I listed on my wish list.
