Sunday Miracles: Easter 2023

Writing a post this Easter is in itself a miracle for me. The cross of having a chronic illness is heavy, but I find comfort in the fact that I never going to be alone. Papa Jesus and my boys will always be with me through good days and bad days. Surrender all your pain and worries to Him and He'll lead you to the right path.

Have a happy and blessed Easter everyone!

Plantita Saturdays: Harvested Parsley from My Garden

Planted some parsley seeds last September. I honestly forgot about it since I thought it was one of the carrot pots, haha. It just kept growing and has been very resilient. We moved all my plants to a corner in the garage because of the garden renovation. The leaves of the veggies shrank so I decided to move them where they can get better sunlight. That's when I realized one of the pots was full of parsley.

The recipe I tried last night required for some fresh parsley. Went to the garden and snipped off some parsley to use for dinner. I was so happy I was able to grow something useful in my garden. I planted the seeds last September. I added home-made compost to the soil and placed it in a sunny spot. Watered it whenever the soil was dry. I spray it with neem oil weekly and I guess insects don't like it. I read it's quite resilient to drought.

I think I'll grow another pot of parsley since it's something I use often. I hope to set up a veggie row just outside the kitchen. It's a nice area to grow veggies. Maybe this time around I'd be able to grow mustasa again :)

Wellness Wednesdays: Lighten Up Your Cross

We all have crosses we carry. The best way to lighten the burden is to surrender it to Him. Easier said than done. I hit rock bottom again this week as I go through the challenges of having a chronic illness. I weigh myself everyday so I could arrest any possible issues that may crop up. I watch what I eat to make sure I stay stable. Sometimes though uncontrollable instances happen and I get more sick (i.e. food poisoning).

On top of my chronic illnesses, I've been dealing with wounds that I buried a long time ago. They cropped up when I started getting sick. I chanced upon this video by Bro. Bo Sanchez. He shared that the hardest person to forgive is yourself. It's probably the heaviest baggage you can carry around.

Dear Lord, as we experience once more this most sacred week, may we be able to surrender everything to you. You are the only one who could truly heal us. Thank you for your love and may we follow Your light as we journey through our life.

Creative Happy Tuesdays: Oatmeal Swissdot Kitchen Curtains

I love looking at the garden while washing dishes, but it's been too hot lately so I had to reinstall the kitchen curtains. We did away with it the past few months since it was cooler and it's been nice to look at the garden and sky. Since we remodeled the kitchen I thought it would be nice to have a new set of curtains.

I like to experiment with the fabric of my curtain projects. I like the fabric to be light and have texture. I used gina/geena fabric when I was learning how to make curtains. When I got the hang of it I started to experiment with the fabric. I've used lace embroider, linen like polyester and katrina fabric. I cam across Swissdot fabric on Lazada and thought it would be cute to try for my kitchen curtains.

The shop offered 26 different colors. I chose oatmeal since that's what I eat everyday for breakfast. I went for a neutral color for now since I'm still planning to make new covers for my kitchen gadgets. I want to try the other Swissdot fabric colors.

Finished sewing the curtains in 2 nights. It just required straight stitches, nothing fancy since I needed to finish it asap. Making curtains is therapeutic. This set showed me that my sewing skills have improved. Learning to make our own curtains saved us a lot of money. I also get to select and play around with different types of fabric. I giggled last Sunday when I saw a dress made out of Swissdot fabric. Now I have to make sure I don't end up twinning with our curtains, hahaha.

Home on Mondays: Whirlwind Vent Installation on Our Roof

Last week I shared about installing vents for our roof. This was a prerequisite to what we were aiming forth -- a whirlwind ventilator for our roof. I honestly thought it would look tacky since whirlwind ventilators are normally used in factories. I saw some houses in our area though that had it and asked Architect Wansi a few months ago about it. He said that there are smaller ones for houses.

A few weeks ago I asked Architect Wansi if we could prioritize resolving the heat issue of our home. With the amihan winds gone, the heat was really affecting me. His team finished installing the roof underside vent last week and early this week the whirlwind ventilator team did their installation.

Whirlwind ventilator

The installation was done in less than two hours. I was expecting it to be noisy, but they were unobtrusive. They also made them promise that the installation won't cause the roof to drip in case it rains. They said that's the top concern of their clients and they explained more about how they installed the vent. They also kindly took photos of the installation.

Since my kryptonite is heat, I immediately felt the difference in the temperature. There's an area outside of our bedroom that feels like an oven. The temp inside our house improved a lot. The vents and whirlwind ventilator helps to release the hot air inside the house. Cross ventilation windows/areas don't exist in our house. It is a similar issue to my Mom's home.  The heat was also lowered with the help of vents.

I think we can still cool down the living room a bit. We are still debating whether we should install a floor standing airconditioner (very expensive and we don't have the budget for it right now) or if we could make do with air cooling fans. We'll observe for now and decide later on what to do. The whirlwind ventilator so far has helped cool down our home.
