Tried Founders Donuts

The new Wing of SM Bicutan opened a lot of new places we haven't tried. If you're coming in from building B, the first thing you'll see is a row of places where you can have snacks. There's Zus Coffee, Auntie Anne's, Llao Llao, NYPD, Founder's Coffee and a number of stalls that sell dessert. We wanted to try Zus Coffee, but their coffee machine was broken. We ended up having our morning coffee at Auntie Anne's. In the afternoon, we decided to try Founders Donuts.

To be honest, we have not come across the brand. There's a lot of doughnut brands locally, but we usually buy from Dunkin', J.Co or Krispy Kreme. We brought home merienda from Founders Donuts. Just coffee and one biscoff tiramisu donut for Sweetie (he absolutely love anything Biscoff). We got struck in traffic, I drank the coffee with Auntie Anne's original pretzel. I love eating pretzel when it's freshly made and warm. The iced cafe latte was just okay, pretty standard. 

When we got home, I took a bite from Sweetie's biscoff donut. It was just okay too, a bit dry for me. Maybe I'm just super used to Dunkin', KK and J.Co. Well, we'll try other flavors next time, maybe they have something that I would like.

Tried Randy's Donuts

A good friend sent us two boxes of Randy's Donuts on Miggy's birthday. We weren't even aware that Randy's Donuts is now available here, haha. Our friend though lives in the middle of where the action is so she let's us know whenever there is something new. She knows we never go out, so she takes care of keeping us updated and calorie-filled!

The box was huge. It's as big as KK's box of 12, so I thought she sent two dozen doughnuts. When I opened the box I was surprised to see how huge the doughnuts were. They looked like stuffed toys because of the size. The boys were still in isolation, so I took a photo and asked them to choose. They probably thought the doughnuts were small because they chose two each! They were so shocked when they got the doughnuts. I cannot imagine how they finished two in one sitting.

I just got the candy-sprinkled one and it took me an hour to finish it. The candy sprinkles made the pink icing more sweet. Good thing the doughnut itself wasn't sweet. It didn't really have a distinct taste like KK or DD. Those doughnuts I could distinguish from other doughnuts. Randy's Donuts was just okay and a tad bit too sweet. I finished a liter of water while eating one doughnut hehe. 

It was good to try and I appreciate my friend got us some. She said she found the doughnuts too sweet and she only eats half. Told her it was a good experience for us to try since I only knew about it from her, haha (it's like we live in the boondocks). Oh, I tried it with coffee this morning and I sliced a fourth of three flavors so I can try different variants. TBH, they all tasted the same haha. It's pairs well with coffee though, so will do that again next time.

Let's Talk about Donuts

Back in first grade I almost flunked a spelling test because I was one of the 100% who did not spell it right. My then English teacher was so giddy about it since no one spelled it right. She said it should be spelled -

D-O-U-G-H-N-U-T-S

Of course, everyone thought it was spelled donuts because of the only existing donut store back then (the one with the orange and pink logo).

I love donuts and I don't know anybody who doesn't like it. It was my sister who first brought home a box of honey-dipped flavored donuts when I was a kid. Eventually I ventured out and liked the bavarian flavor and later on it was my officemate, Fe, who influenced me to love choco-butternut. Uhhmmmm.

And then the donut revolution happened! There are now more donut brands, but there's one that I've been waiting to open here because of their almond topped donut. Hopefully soooooon!

I'm very picky though with the flavor I eat because my tonsils are very sensitive. One wrong bite and it could send me to tonsilitis hell. Anyway, I received a boxful of classic peanut butter & stripes from Krispy Kreme the other day. The smell was heavenly. And what great timing! I had tonsilitis! So you can just imagine my frustration.

The new flavor is for Father's Day and I ended up thinking about it the whole afternoon. I debated with myself whether or not I should taste it since the doctor repeatedly told me not to eat any sweets.

My Plurk friends know I lost coz I gave in and sampled a small piece. I was in donut heaven. I found a new favorite! The instant karma I got after eating was worth the donut. You absolutely have to try it!

Kwentong Kutsero: Stir or No Stir?

I woke up a bit harassed, tired and not feeling well this morning. I would've wanted to take the day off and get some rest but I had a scheduled speaking engagement at DLSU (my alma mater!) and I had quite a number of deadlines to meet. Still a bit groggy I got out of bed and dragged myself to take the 7 steps to my study room (look Ma still in PJs!).

The one hour I had wasn't enough to go through all my mail and I had to rush off to DLSU for my lunch with college buddy and thesismate, Jingo Badillo (who's DLSU's marketing director now). I scheduled a lunch with him to confirm his announcement that he's quitting his job to enter "Ang Bahay ni Kuya". Ever the prankster... stir or no stir? A definite stir!

Since I was running late for lunch with Jingo (everyone calls him Jingo, but I call him Johannes) I was forced to take one of the private car cabs outside our village. Exiting the Nichols tollgate the driver asked me what year I was at DLSU. I was wearing a white blouse and jeans and a white headband and was carrying my backpack office... he thought I was still a student! LOL. Now that's what you call stir.

The driver went on and divulged his love story to me. Why? I don't really know. Anyway, he said back in 1967 he accompanied his girlfriend to Manila from Batangas. When he arrived back in Batangas he was forced to marry his current wife. The marriage was arranged from birth. He didn't have much choice he said. His grandmother was formidable and at that age you really couldn't do anything he said. Eventually he fell in love and courted his wife and had 6 kids. All of whom are very successful managers and businessmen. And his ex-girlfriend? He said he still thinks about her since they never had closure.

That story, what was quite disconcerting was his kwento about giving his son a van for his daily transpo to school, shelling out 5K every week to his apo based in Bacolod, buying his granddaughters PhP250 worth of merienda everyday, giving PhP200 allowance to his first year high school apo everyday. If he was that rich, why was he driving me to DLSU? Stir or no stir?

Oh well... what a weird, weird world.

The doughnut (yes that's the real spelling of donut according to my grade 3 teacher), is the yummiest donut I've tasted ever. It's got almond chips on top and can be found at J.Co, a coffee and donut shop, in Jakarta.
