My Craft Books Collection

I'm so sad. The nearest Booksale branch to me is gone. I had asked them several times if they were staying and they said they had no plans of leaving. Hubby went to the mall last Saturday and was surprised to see Booksale gone.

A mix of books from Booksale, Big Bad Wolf, Kinokuniya, Amazon and trips

I've been collecting craft books the past few years and I buy at least one or two monthly from Booksale. It's hard to find craft books at regular bookstores, plus they're expensive, so we go to Booksale monthly.

I enjoy going through the books. I usually do it while waiting for Miggy when he's at the gym. I use the books mainly for inspiration and when I'm stuck figuring out something. I know there are a gazillion sewing videos I can watch. I do that too, but going through books is a different experience. Aside from seeing designs, it also pushes me to be better at what I do.

More than 50% of my collection are probably from Booksale. Some I buy at PhP15 to 30 only! Some are a bit more expensive. Part of my collection came from Kinokuniya, a few from National Bookstore/Fully Booked, Big Bad Wolf (here and Singapore), and a few from trips (especially the magazines). The collection started when the Gaylas gave me a boat-load of craft books for my 40th birthday, I just continued it :)

Booksale, Again!

A trip to the mall nearby is not complete if we don't drop by Booksale. We finished our appointment early, so we dropped by the mall to buy meds. Of course, we dropped by Booksale before we did our errand.

We usually park on the other side, but since it was just a quick visit we parked in the building where Booksale was located. Oh boy! The elevator sounded scary! We originally thought the strange sound was from a car. We realized the weird sound was the elevator! We'll stick to parking on the other side next time!

Anyway, we reached Booksale safely. The staff smiled after seeing us. She always tells us to come on a Tuesday. They get new stocks on Mondays, so there's always fresh books on Tuesdays.

Sweetie got a huge haul. Twelve books for just PhP220! I saw a number of books that interested me. A few were craft books, but one was a music book of nursery rhymes. That's where I started when I learned to play the piano. My first recital piece was "Old MacDonald" :)

I haven't been buying fiction books since I have a huge pile of unread books. It's Miggy who's been buying fiction books. He got a book by Michael Crichton, "Sphere". We had it before, but it perished during Typhoon Ondoy.

Before we left I saw a child holding a magazine about ships. We always try to find books about ships for Dad. I told Sweetie about it and I went to the back part of the store and promptly found a book on naval aviation. I know we probably won't find a similar one, so I got that too. Dad received the book today and he was fascinated with the book, especially with the emblem. I'm glad we got the book for him.

Booksale!

When we went out the other day, we dropped by Booksale. It's good exercise to walk from building C to building A to visit our favorite bookstore.

They didn't have any quilt books, but I managed to get a couple of books which I need for future planning. The staff said the books that arrived for the week were cookbooks. Oh! But Sweetie found a rare Whitney Houston piano book! It was only PhP20!

Miggy didn't find anything he wanted so I followed him after paying for the books I got. Sweetie usually takes longer since he also looks for books for Dad to read.

Will go back soon!

Booksale Forever!

To make sure the Booksale near us doesn't go away, we visit it every few weeks to buy something. I'm especially lucky because quilting books are always available and affordable, plus, not many people quilt here.

I've actually ran out of shelf space, so I told myself to hold off buying anything. It's irresistible though and I got 4 books for just PHP120. Two craft books, a home decor guide, and a bird book for Miggy. Not bad huh.

I've managed to hold off buying books for reading because I have a huge reading backlog! I told myself I should make a dent first before buying anything else. :)

I Love this Quilt Book

I went crazy last week and bought several quilt books from Booksale. They were really affordable at Php15 (3 books), Php35 (2 books) and Php130 (a thick Better Homes and Gardens hardbound book).

I've been taking my sweet time going through the books for inspiration. Much as there's Pinterest I still like having books for inspiration and to learn new things.

I hesitated to get the Better Homes and Gardens "505 Quilt Blocks" since the other books were really inexpensive. I realized though that it's a good buy since I want to try making more block quilts. I'm really happy with the book since it includes patterns. It has blocks also for every occasion and I'll be able to use it for my home projects.

Might drop by Booksale again soon, haha.

Nancy Drew!

I found a movie on Netflix that piqued my interest, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. The reason why I wear eyeglasses is because I read a lot when I was young. I remember saving my allowance so I could buy books at National Bookstore.

I think I was in fourth grade when I started reading Bobbsey Twins. I remember I'd read on the way to Lucena on the bus. We'd go there on weekends to visit my Dad. He was back then assigned there as a judge at a RTC. Eventually I discovered the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys hardbound books in our basement. We had more Hardy Boys books than Nancy Drew books and I enjoyed every single one of them.

So I watched the movie while working on a quilt blanket this afternoon. I enjoyed the movie and it was interesting to see they had set it to present day. Now I'm curious to see if there are other Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys films. Maybe on HBO or Disney+? I've been thinking of signing up for it, maybe just for a month or two. Watching movies has been good company while I sew hehe.
