Some Progress on the Heart Tote Bag

I've been working on this quilted heart tote bag for a few months now. Sewing time has been disrupted because of the renovation, getting sick and my things are still in boxes. I did set aside this project so I could work on it, but there's just been a lot of distraction. 

Sweetie and I exchanged places when the family room was finished. I'm now sitting at the far end of the family room. We switched since it makes more sense for him to be near the display cabinet. He does toy photography, so he has to access his collection often. I switched with him since I need more storage space for my sewing items. 

The boys set up my sewing table and I've since tried to put some time to sew. The only project I have accessible is the quilted tote bag I'm making for a friend. I made some progress! I sandwiched the top and quilted the heart by color. I scrambled to find thread since most of my materials are still in boxes. I made do with what I have and finished quilting yesterday. 

I thought I'd finish it by today, BUT, I can't find the roll of bag handle, haha. While looking for it I ended up fixing my gardening stuff and emptying a few bags. I hope to find it soon so I can finish this project and move on to a new one!

Made a Cute Wonder Woman Tote Bag

Started this year's crafting activities by making a cute Wonder Woman tote bag. It was inspired from a jute bag a friend used to send a gift. I super liked the size of the jute bag. In fact, I use it everyday to transport my stuff from room to room. I carry a lot of stuff whenever I leave our bedroom, so it's worked perfectly for me. 

I've had the jute bag for awhile now, so thought I'd make a similar one, but with a twist. I still have some Wonder Woman fabric, so I thought I'd start strong this year with an iconic character. I also want to give the piece as a gift to a friend who loves Wonder Woman. 

I immediately cut the fabric after I figured out the sizes of the pieces. Piecing them together was easy. I learned a lot through the years and made sure to use fusible interfacing to stabilize the fabric. What I didn't count on was not finding my stash of bag handles. I brought home some from Singapore and was counting on using it for this project. 

Ahh, another learning moment for me. Did some research on how to make bag handles, so I just made a basic one. Next time I'll try making it rounded. I'm actually surprised I got some good views on my post on "how to make bag straps". I guess I was just on the same boat as many other people. (Go watch it yes?). 

I love how it turned out. Holding onto this until I finish two more for my food train crew. I'll make something different for the other two. I'm sure my friend will see this when I post this! Haha! No worries! It will be with you soon!

Creative Happy Tuesdays: The Clown Quilt from My Teenage Years

Unearthed another one of the quilts I made under my Mom's supervision. I think Mom bought the clown fabric for this project so I could experience it. We were using scraps from Tita Maming's garment shop for our quilt projects. I super loved those scraps. They were perfect for hand quilting. 

Mom took care of cutting up the fabric for me. It already had lines I followed when I pieced the cut fabric together. I sewed everything by hand. Mom and I bought the rope from Divisoria when she first brought me there. I was amazed with the variety of materials for crafting. Mom and I continued visiting Divisoria for many years. 

We were not familiar yet with bag knick-knacks, so I just embroidered this part.

I'm surprised the bag is still intact. I remember using it as my school bag and it carried heavy books and notebooks. Mom took care of closing the sides on her sewing machine.  I think that's what made it sturdy. I will just need to change the rope since it is already unraveled. I kept favorite projects and things in a crate. It moved where I moved since it's my childhood treasure chest. 

I'm still on break from sewing right now. I experienced pain on my right arm after I finished the food processor quilt project. My new doctor included vitamin D for my blood test. I'm apparently vitamin D insufficient. My doctor will probably give me some supplements/meds to correct that. At least it's not a severe deficiency like I had 2 years ago. Good excuse to head to the beach!
