What Happened to Our Dab Water Pump

We were happy with our Dab water pump. It was newly installed when we moved into our house five years ago. Together with it was a Bestank water tank that tided us over whenever there were water interruptions. Maintenance was easy and we only called for service once in the last five years. We also had a filter installed to reduce the need to have the water tank cleaned*. We were happy campers.

Until... we noticed all our faucets kept spouting hot water. We thought it was our Bhagwan heater, so we turned it off. The water was still very hot and it made us anxious because hot water can melt pipes. It would be a huge disaster if that happened. I did a quick Google search and figured out it was our water pump causing the issue. Sweetie immediately turned it off and we used Maynilad directly until the Bestank service crew could come over. 

The crew they sent was very knowledgeable. They confirmed it was the pump that was causing the hot water because the primer dried up. They said the primer probably dried up because of the water interruptions. We had interruptions often last summer and we honestly had no idea you have to add water to the pump whenever that happens. 

They declared we can have the pump repaired. It needed 3 parts to be replaced and it'd cost PhP18,000, BUT, we'd have to wait 3 months for the parts to be imported. Sweetie and I discussed what to do and with El Nino affecting all of us, it would be problematic if we're unable to have water (I'm immuno-compromised, so a lot of factors affect my health). Sigh!

Home on Mondays: Switched to Washable Filters

The plumbing fixes we had made are working well. It got tested with heavy rain and the frequent water interruptions. Rod finally came to check the water filter he installed. It's supposed to help clean the water before it goes in the tank. The initially installed a disposable filter to see how dirty it would get. Here's how it looks after a month -

It is advised to change disposable filters monthly. Each filter costs approximately PhP600+. It would be expensive to change monthly. Washable filters cost about PhP800+ each and can be used for up to five months. All you need is to wash it down with a hose. We'll be able to save a lot with washable filters. Yay!

The set-up has worked well for us and I like the safety precaution features of the pump we use. I was worried we'd have to pay a lot just to get our tank cleaned regularly. Mom had an underground tank and that was really hard to manage. Aside from getting a good pump, also make sure to work with a master plumber to ensure your safety. Home on Mondays: Look at Our Cleaned Up Water Pipes

We wondered why the pipes under our water tank looked so awkward. We had to be careful walking around it because it looked fragile. We also had no idea what the knobs were for and where the pipes went. Our heart would always skip whenever the cats would go under the tank. We eventually had it inspected and Rod, the master plumber, said that he'd fix it for us.

The tank was emptied to be cleaned. Rod also added a filter so the water coming in the tank would already be clean. Rod is truly very passionate on what he does. His team is the same and we were pleasantly surprised with the work they did for us. 

The tank was unusable when they worked on the pipes. Good thing they worked on the pipes just before Maynilad announced water interruptions. We used tabo system while they were working on the pipes. They worked on it really fast and it was done in just two days. The pipes now look like MRT lines (haha). Rod helped us label it so we could easily turn things on and off as needed.

It's now safer to walk around the tank. We're no longer afraid of bumping into the pipes because it's now installed properly. I smile whenever I see the nearly lined up pipes. It's just so pleasant to see good work. We'll definitely be working with Rod again for future projects!
