Changing What I Eat

My recent annual physical exam didn't have good results. My doctor didn't scold me for being at the ceiling of what's normal, but I know it's time for me to change my diet so I don't overboard especially with cholesterol and blood sugar.

The summary report suggested I avoid eating meat, including chicken, and to eat more veggies. For over a week now I have been eating fish everyday and I'm keeping a diary of vegetables I eat everyday.

It's been an eye opening experience since I've been finding new dishes to try. I also rounded up my seafood recipes I've made through the years. My next grocery run will include more seafood in the list.

It's been a week and the most noticeable change is I'm able to sleep faster. My doctor said the body aches and cramps I'm experiencing is due to the heat and humidity. I just need to be better hydrated and stay out of the sun (gardening time has also moved to a later time).

I lost about a kilo already, but I'm not counting that as a permanent change. I'll consider it as weight loss if it stays for another week.

Don't Throw Eggshells

My boys support my gardening adventures and one of the things they do is set aside egg shells for me. We wash the shells and then boil it. Once it's dry I use a grinder to break it down further.

I think the egg shells I mixed in the soil for the bell pepper sprouts helped make it grow properly. I haven't encountered the previous issues I had when I tried growing bell peppers.

I also learned to save the water from boiling egg shells. I let it cool and then I use it to water plants. It's adds nutrients for the plants. I just make sure to add fertilizer once a week, so the plants don't burn from too much fertilizer.

I'll also try making the more potent fertilizer. It's the one with vinegar, but I need to research again how to make it. There's a lot of stuff in your kitchen you can use to enrich your plants, so save your eggshells :)

Nutrition

Miggy started his wellness and nutrition journey last month. All of us are overdue for a lifestyle change since we're not getting any younger, plus prevention is better than finding a cure for issues.

One of the key things we need to work on is with what we eat. It was our first time to work with a nutritionist and dietician. We originally thought we'd re-enroll with our meal plans. We tried for two days, but it had different effects on each of us.

The dietician had a very different view on meal plans. She said, it's best for those who don't have time to prepare their food. She advised it's still better to prepare your own food since you know exactly what's going into it.

We studied closely the plan and food options to see what we can prepare at home. We researched recipes to see what's easy to do at home. We also planned the transition to healthier food since TBH Miggy and I don't really eat that much veggies.

It's been two weeks since we started and we're feeling more energetic. I've also been involving the boys more when we cook. This way I could survive and also teach Miggy how to cook.

Let's see where the changes we'll be doing brings us :)
