Watched "Love You So Bad"

I discovered earlier that 2025 MMFF films have started to trickle on Netflix. We try to watch the annual MMFF films every year and we started with "Love You So Bad". 

We watched most of the trailers last year, but for this movie I just remember who's in it. We first saw Will Ashley and Bianca de Vera when they started in the series jointly produced by ABS-CBN and GMA. Then we saw them on PBB. Like everyone else, we were curious who'd they end up with. 

College days. We all grew up :)

Anyway, we decided to watch "Love You So Bad" while having dinner. To be honest, I expected it to be a teeny-bopper love team thingy. I was so wrong because what it featured was quite complex. It delivered a realistic story about love, being in a relationship and the complexities of growing up. 

Honestly, the film reminded me a bit about myself. I was a mix of the characters and I must say, growing up is truly messy. In the end, we all learn from our mistakes and move on to become better versions of ourselves. 

I'm not going to spoil anything, just go watch it!

Watched Kontrabida Academy

The past week was stressful. There were so many things that happened locally. What's stressful about it is you don't know who's telling the truth, plus the fact that our taxes just went nowhere.

Anyway, I decided to watch a movie to destress. Decided to watch "Kontrabida Academy" on Netflix. Eugene Domingo and Barbie Forteza did not disappoint. They filled our afternoon with laughter. I love how sweet Barbie turned into a Kontrabida.

What was also very special about the movie were the cameos of well-known kontrabidas. I was happy to see they included Cherie Gil, the premier kontrabida of Philippine films. I won't mention any more so I don't spoil the fun for others.

Watched "The Two Popes" Again

I remember watching "The Two Popes" when it first came out a few years ago. I watched it again today with Sweetie since I wanted to remember Pope Francis' journey.

I've been sad all week, but I have a feeling that Pope Francis would want us to rejoice. He has gone back home and the AI-made posts of the Pope together with Jesus is a reminder that Pope Francis is happily with Jesus now. 

I have avoided watching any news/videos on speculations on who will be the new pope. The new Pope will be rightfully chosen at the Conclave. I just hope and pray it will be someone like Pope Francis. Someone who will also have a big heart to love and accept all. 

Go watch "The Two Popes" to appreciate better the work done by Pope Francis in the past 12 years. He was so different from Pope Benedict, but their differences just showed why they were both very important for all of us.

Watched "My Love Will Make You Disappear"

Took the opportunity to watch "My Love Will Make You Disappear" today. We had to step out for an errand and the showtime worked out. 

Since it was a Monday there was a line of senior citizens lined up to watch for free. They were so excited and very happy when another customer bought tickets. Apparently the cinema only allows SCs to watch if there's a paying customer. We chose a later time, so we were not able to witness how they found the movie. They were so excited though, which I thought was so cute.

Sweetie and I got the theater exclusively. No one watches at noon on a weekday, so we were quite happy about it. It felt like we booked a block screening for ourselves, hahaha. 

We missed the first few minutes of the movie, but we got the gist that Sari (Kim Chiu) experienced trauma of losing loved ones at a young age. Eventually, she met Jolo (Paulo Avelino) who inherited the compound she and her neighbors were renting. 

The story was simple and straightforward. The villains were mostly their inner struggles and trauma. The story unfolded beautifully and had a good mix of fun, drama and, of course, kilig.

Kim Chui has perfected her talent for leading rom-com films. She embodied Sari. She was Sari. I've watched a number of Paulo Avelino's films and series. He's certainly more comfortable doing drama and playing dark characters. Perhaps he should do more rom-com films with Kim so they can make it as flawless as Marvin and Jolina (sorry GenXer here). The definitely have chemistry and TBH I wish they'd end up together (hehe).

Overall, it's a good show to watch. Definitely entertaining and the lines they threw reminded me of the struggles I had before I met Sweetie. :)

I Ugly Cried! (Ex Ex Lovers)

Last time I stepped inside a movie theater was probably in 2019. The pandemic happened and I have had to avoid going to crowded areas. When the teaser for "Ex Ex Lovers" came out, I told Sweetie I wanted to watch it.

Luckily, the stars aligned and the conditions for me to be able to watch was met. We booked a ticket at midnight and watched the Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal flick, "Ex Ex Lovers" this afternoon.

We enjoyed watching the film. It was full of the 90s romcom kilig. I realized that's what I look for whenever I browse through Netflix, haha. The film showcased the best of the chemistry of Marvin and Jolina. Now all grown up, it was a good way to showcase realistically where things may go from your younger "so in love" years. 

Lots of lessons to learn from the movie and that's why it's really important not to be impulsive and to choose well. The story made it very relatable to watch. I also liked the fact they shot parts of the movie in Malta. It's something very different!

I must admit, I ugly cried. Haha! I'm not going to give any spoilers though, just go watch it yourself if you want to feel the old 90s kilig warm, fuzzy feeling.

Watched Dollhouse

Dollhouse has been in my watch list since last year. I finally watched it today while cleaning Sto. Niño, St Joseph, and a crucifix. I was right in front of the TV, so I saw all the nuances made by the characters.

I have been avoiding watching it since the time I watched "Lolo and Kid". It was a tearjerker and I was sure "Dollhouse" would be too. I still watched it since it got good reviews. I also read that it's based on the story of the writer's relationship with her father. 

The film told a very good, heartwarming story about regret, responsibility, making amends, and essentially what happens when you keep making bad choices in life. I like that they kept a small cast and showed multiple facets of the story. It successfully made me understand why the characters made those choices.

Of course, I bawled at the ending. The actors really did a great job to make me feel what they were feeling. The film is worth watching and I actually wouldn't mind watching it again. Now, I have to work up the courage to watch "Rewind". One of the last 3 MMFF 2023 movies I've yet to watch.

Stephen's Will

Today I watched "The Theory of Everything". It's a film about the life of Stephen Hawking. He is one of the most known scientists in our time. He was only 21 years old when he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. His doctors said they expected him to live only two more years. 

Stephen Hawking died at the age of 76. He lived a full life. Got married, had 3 children and even re-married. His book "A Brief History of Time" sold over 10 million books. He was able to do this even though he lived most of his life on a wheelchair, had to be dressed and fed, and had a machine to communicate. 

How did he do it? How was he still able to achieve so much despite the physical challenges?

I believe it was love that fueled Stephen Hawking's will to stay alive. At a brain injury conference he mentioned that his children helped him cope with his symptoms. In the film they showed him playing with his children even when he was wheelchair bound. The film also showed his wife, Jane, patiently taking care of him. That's true love. 

His love for science and his brilliant mind allowed him to achieve a lot. At the conference Stephen Hawking also shared that he realized that he would not allow his disability to keep him from achieving. That's what I call iron will.

Deadpool

I honestly have no idea about Deadpool. One of my friends just mentioned that a Marvel movie was going to be shown this February and I should watch. I asked Miguel and he gave me a brief background and had me watch a few trailers. It looked fun so I said sure let's watch.

And so we did. Some friends who watched earlier than me said that it wasn't good. Since I don't have any background about Deadpool I actually enjoyed the movie. It was funny. Cheesy. Surprisingly baduy but fun nonetheless. Watch without expectations and I guess you'll have fun too.

Just saw a friend share that Ryan Reynolds visited Google to talk about Deadpool. Woot!
