Assembling a Quilted Bag

I'm still working on my yellow bag. It's as big as this quilted tote bag I made back in 2021. I just want something that will bring sunshine when I move around.

Read to quilt and assemble!

I've been amiss with editing my sewing vids. I've just gotten so lazy with editing and taking videos. One day I'll get to it. In the meantime, we'll celebrate my Dad's birthday today. He would have been 93 years old.

Happy birthday Dad! We love and miss you!

15 Years Without Dad

It's been 15 years since we lost Dad. I miss him everyday and wish he's still around.

Fifteen years has passed by so fast. A lot has happened since then and we just moved forward. We still celebrate their special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. It's good to not forget and keep them close to your heart.

Miss you Dad. Love you forever.

Primum Regnum Dei

"First, the Kingdom of God."

The Latin phrase above is inscribed in my Dad's tombstone. He explained this during his speech when we celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

The phrase came to mind because of the flood control corruption issues. I checked Twitter err X just now and majority of the tweets are about it. My Dad explained during his speech that he led his life following the phrase. God first in everything.

My parents both worked hard to provide for us. Growing up they said the only legacy they could leave us is our education and life lessons. At a young age, Mom would always tell me, "What would you do when I'm gone?". She'd say that whenever I'm faced with a learning moment.

Always pray.
Work hard.
Be disciplined.
Have integrity.
Be honest.
Live simply.
Love your family.
Uphold the truth.

At the end of the day, we all go back to Him and all the earthly stuff you have will be left here. My Dad was really good at it. While going through my childhood home I found very few of his earthly possessions. His treasure were his law books. They are all boxed up now to go to his Alma Mater where he learned about "Primum Regnum Dei".

Daddy's 92nd Birthday

Dad would have celebrated his 92nd birthday today. I wanted to order some pancit and hardinera from Buddy's, but their Paranaque kitchen is gone. We'll just try to get some tomorrow maybe.

It's been 15 years since we got to celebrate Dad's birthday with him. He looked very healthy then and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. We didn't have a big celebration and just had lunch at North Park. We never expected he'd be gone in less than a year.

Life changed a lot when we lost Dad. I know that he's always been there guiding us. If he was still around we'll probably have some noodles and his favorite beef dishes and probably some nilaga within the week. He loved to eat and cook! You should try his famous beef mustasa wrap. It's so yummy!

He was not fond of material things and it's no surprise that I didn't really find any of his belongings anymore. Mom probably donated all his clothes way back and just kept the essentials (IDs and docs). What Dad had a lot of were his writings and letters (plus letters to the editor!). Going through his things has been therapeutic for me.

I miss Dad everyday. I know he's having a blast up there with Mom and my titos and titas. They're partying like they used to while keeping tabs with us down here.

Happy birthday Dad. Love you very much!

Dad's 91st

Dad has been visiting me in my dreams the past week. Last night he was with me in a new house in New York. It was a strange dream since the house was between sky scrapers. Haha. Dad though was telling me to always be careful about contracts. Something I've been fussing over the past few weeks.

Dad would have been 91 years old today. We were trying to get some Buddy's for lunch, but they're not available in our area anymore. We'll just do a belated celebration maybe when I go for my check-up. Resting for now and remembering Dad on his special day.

Dad's Advice for His Children and Grandchildren

Finding a lot of treasures the past few weeks. Found copies of "Dad's Advice for His Children/Grandchildren" last week when I was sorting some documents. He wrote the piece back in the turn of the century (2000). He was only 67 years old at that time and far from showing any signs of forgetfulness.

There was a lot of weird sentiment at that time that things may change a lot. The "millenium bug" probably contributed to that fear. The new century felt like new territory. Changing 19 to 20 was met with a lot of trepidation. The first thing I checked when the clock struck midnight was my computer. Dad probably felt that weird feeling also and that's why he wrote this advice.

Dad got sick five years later and had surgery. He didn't like hospitals and seeing doctors. He had colon surgery and recovered eventually. It was only 11 years later after he wrote the piece when he passed away. He really made sure all of us grew up properly to be good citizens.

I re-read the advice and thought about how I'd fair against it.

#1 - of course.

#2 - this one I overdid that's why I had to do early retirement.

#3 - I try to, but I must admit there are things on my to-do list that hasn't been completed for months now.

#4 - I've struggled with this since I was born. My excuse is I have sleep apnea.

#5 - I have a lot of meds, so I really can't do both.

#6 - keeping to it.

#7 - I'm only alive because of Him.

#8 - I have streamlined a lot and especially stayed away from the mariteses.

#9 - My doctors are saying I'm not getting enough rest. Balance is what I need.

#10 - of course! He is the only one we can completely trust.

I was the one who typed this note for my Dad. I typed it under protest because it didn't feel right since Dad was still strong at that time. If I remember correctly, we even fought because I delayed typing it. I'm not sure if he distributed it because there were a lot of copies when I found it. Since my siblings and my nephews and nieces are scattered all over the world I decided to post it here. It may be useful also for others :)

Miss you Daddy.
