Propagating Bougainvillea and Rescuing Plants

I took cuttings of Mom's huge bougainvillea tree. She has various colours which I hope to propagate. I made several pots out of the cuttings. Mom told me before you just need to stick it in soil and it will grow. I hope it will be successful.

We got another set of Mom's plants. The summer heat has been making them crispy and I can't rely on the caretaker to water them properly. I've been learning a lot about plants since I have to research before I re-pot and organize them.

I saw a pot of snow white aglaonema and I was ecstatic. I told Sweetie the other night I didn't have other varieties of aglaonema and wanted the white one. I didn't actually notice that Mom had a white one, so I was really happy when I found one in her collection. It looked so sad though, so I dunked it in water for 30 minutes. It's recovering well now.

Mom's Favorite Plants

I'm working on saving Mom's plants and transferred those that were in front of the house to our home. 

When Sweetie pulled the plants out he said most had spikes and I should be careful. I placed the plants on quarantine first to make sure they didn't have pests. I started re-potting them over the weekend.

I was really surprised that Mom was fascinated with bromeliads. I know she liked flowers and had a lot of orchids. I don't know when she started collecting bromeliads. 

I was only able to transfer a few plants because I ran out of pots. Mom liked pairing plants, so each pot had a number of plants. The bromeliads also grew a lot of pups, so I separated them so I can give some away.

Luckily, most of the plants don't like direct sunlight. I don't get good sunlight in our home, so I shouldn't have a problem making sure they live. Now I just need to get more pots so I can continue re-potting the plants. It's immensely therapeutic :)

Saving Mom's Garden, One Pot at a Time

I've been working on saving Mom's plants and after going around her garden I decided to get some plants that needed a lot of TLC. 

To be honest, I can only name a few of Mom's plants. Thanks to Google Lens I'm able to identify the plants. Identifying the plant is important so I know what kind of soil, watering and sunlight it needs.

The first plant I worked on is a bromeliad. It was strangely not potted, but had roots. There were mixed views on what kind of soil it needs. I decided to use cactus soil mix (loam soil + stones + perlite). If it survives that's when I'll re-pot it with peat moss. 

By the time I finished gardening, Meredith was probably cross because I occupied part of her bench. She hung on my gardening scissors and refused to give it up. It was her way of saying that it was time fo me to rest.

I had a productive day. I was able to re-pot most of my cacti and succulents. I also took the opportunity to propagate gumamela cuttings. Hope everything I worked on will flourish :)
